Calderdale Climate Change Partnership
The Climate Change Partnership was established by CSF in October 2004 to provide a mechanism within Calderdale to bring together partners interested in reducing CC emissions, and to support at a local level the strong commitment to reduce tackle climate change made by the Yorkshire and Humberside assembly and by Yorkshire forward, the regional development agency. this regional activity came to fruition in December 2005 with the launching of the regional climate change action plan - YourClimate.
Action in 2005 included work to prepare Calderdale council's own climate change strategy, and the launching by Treesponsibility of two new initiatives.
Treesponsibility is a not-for profit community group with the principal aim of encouraging and enabling people to take responsibility for their own carbon dioxide emissions through tree-planting, as one urgent response to climate change. So far they have managed to plant about 60,000 trees and hedge plants. Their new initiatives are: #
CO2mmitment : a network of climate-aware businesses and organisations in or near the Upper Calder Valley pledged to take determined action to cut their own carbon dioxide emissions, whilst ensuring that they are carbon neutral by planting enough trees to soak up the CO2 pollution from their business activities.
Tree-planting Holidays in the beautiful South Pennines: a short holiday or weekend break tree-planting in the Upper Calder Valley . "You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your holiday will be the seed from which new woodlands will grow".
